How do you survive Thanksgiving dinner? Change the topic
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WBFF) - Once you've gotten your Thanksgiving meal cooked, comes the sometimes awkward dinner-table conversation.
National etiquette expert Diane Gottsman says there's an easy way to change the topic if you start discussing something not so pleasant.
"We all need to know to curb it, and if somebody starts talking, we can say very politely, 'Can we just change the topic? Let's refocus on things that we are grateful for,'" said Gottsman.
Gottsman says it's also important to remember that alcohol tends to make people say things they may not otherwise say.
