Last stop for the big top: Ringling Bros. Circus bids farewell to Baltimore
BALTIMORE (WBFF) - The 146th tour will be the final tour for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey.
The circus opened its final series of performances in Baltimore Thursday night.
"My father's father took us as kids to the circus," said Melinda Price, who brought her own child to the Royal Farms Arena.
The circus has been the target of protests by animal rights groups, who have long contended that elephants were being abused. Ringling Brothers has long denied the accusations but decided to pull the elephants out of its show last year.
"With the elephants leaving the show, there was a rapid decline in sales," said circus spokeswoman Beth Carter.
The show will make its final performance in Baltimore on April 30.
"Tradition is going away, and that's sad," said Price.
