CHARGED: Man attempts to set fire to office, assaults employees with extinguisher
CARROLL COUNTY, MD (WBFF) —
A man is charged after police say he attempted to ignite a fire at a group home then assaulted employees with a fire extinguisher.
Police were called to Benchmark Human Services on Buffalo Road in New Windsor after a client, David Lee Fisher, 29, attempted to set fire to a closed room where employees were located.
According to officials, when Fisher was unsuccessful with igniting the fire, he grabbed a fire extinguisher, placed the nozzle under the door and released the chemicals.
Fisher fled the scene but was detained by Deputies with Carroll County Sheriff's Office.
Through investigation, police were able to determine Fisher used a makeshift lighter, which consisted of a lighter and cologne to set the fire.
He was transported to Carroll Hospital Center for a mental evaluation.
Two employees and two clients were also transported by EMS for inhalations of the fire extinguisher.
David Lee Fisher is charged with arson 1st degree, malicious burning 2nd degree, (2) counts of 2nd degree assault, (4) counts of reckless endangerment, and malicious destruction of property less than $1,000.00.
