MICA ranked the most expensive college in Maryland
BALTIMORE (WBFF) - What's the priciest college in Maryland? According to a new ranking, it's right in Baltimore City.
The Maryland Institute College of Art is the state's most expensive institution of higher learning, reported 24/7 Wall St., LLC, an online financial news company based in Delaware.
MICA, which is based out of the Mount Vernon/Bolton Hill area, has an annual net price of $41,889, the highest such price for any college in Maryland, according to the report.
The college has the 17th lowest spending on student aid, with just $292.65 per student, said 24/7 Wall St.
By comparison, the statewide tuition for a four-year public university is $8,530.
"Because of the complex web of institutional funding programs, including student aid, grants, work-study, and loans, however, the cost of attending college as presented to the public is rarely equal to what students actually pay," noted 24/7 Wall St. "And the cost of college tuition after tuition discounts, still varies considerably by type of institution, family financial status, academic performance in the first year of college, and a range of other factors, including the geographic location of the institution."
The company said that, nationwide, the most expensive college was the California Institute of the Arts, with an annual net price of more than $50,000. California is also home to the cheapest college, Zaytuna College, where first-year students paid on average just $1,135 after subtracting institutional funding.
