Police charge man in killing of Dionay Smith, brother of spokesperson T.J. Smith
BALTIMORE (WBFF) -- Police have charged a man in the murder of the brother of a Baltimore Police Department spokesman.
Police say Terrell Gibson has been charged with murder, assault and reckless endangerment in the killing of 24-year-old Dionay Smith on July 2. Dionay is the brother of chief spokesman of the police department T.J. Smith.
Police say Dionay was at his home on Argyle Avenue when he was shot and killed. Detectives were able to obtain video footage to help identify the suspect, named as Gibson by police on Thursday.
T.J. Smith shared his appreciation to the department in a Facebook post following the announcement saying:
"On behalf of the Smith family, I would like to offer our sincere thanks to the Baltimore Police Department for identifying and arresting the suspect responsible for our loved one's death.
We also offer our thanks to the community for the outpouring of assistance and condolences.
We now look forward to the justice system holding this individual accountable for his actions, so that he does not have the opportunity to harm anyone else's family."
Gibson is currently being interviewed by homicide detectives and will then be transported to Central Booking.
