Police make arrest in murder of firefighter
BALTIMORE (WBFF)-- On November 30, 2017, officers found a volunteer firefighter dead in his Fells Point home.
Police were asked to check on Jon Hickey after no one had seen or heard from him for a couple of days.
“A friend of the victim had been out with him several days prior to that,” explained BPD Detective Donny Moses. “They hadn’t seen him. They hadn’t heard from him, phone or social media. There was just nothing, and that was not common.”
Officers entered the home and found the 31 year-old suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
Medics pronounced the victim dead on the scene. The family of Jon Hickey called his murder a mystery.
Tuesday, police announced an arrest, saying they had a 35-year-old man in custody. No other details were released.
Investigators have not yet released a motive in the killing and wouldn’t comment when asked about any signs of forced entry, so as not to jeopardize the case.
“The way we found the place, it wasn’t a mess,” explained Moses. “It’s a mystery. You really don’t want to rule out anything, but with the way we found the location, it’s particularly puzzling. It just doesn’t fit what you would find in such a scene.”
Hickey was a volunteer firefighter and in the process of joining the Baltimore City Fire Department.
