Pugh: It'll take $350 million to house all of Baltimore's homeless
BALTIMORE (WBFF) - Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh intends to call on the business and philanthropic communities to help end the war on homelessness.
At a news conference on Wednesday, Pugh estimated that it’ll cost $350 million to find permanent homes for the city’s estimated 3,000 homeless residents.
“And so the question becomes, 'Where is that going to come from and when are we going to put that together?'” said Pugh.
The news left homeless provider Christina Flowers shaking her head.
“We have housed over 600 homeless individuals within five years, and it didn’t take me $350 million,” said Flowers following the Mayor’s announcement.
The announcement comes after several homeless residents set up a campsite in front of city hall demanding the city solve its growing homeless predicament.
“This can’t be business as usual. There are people dying on the streets everyday,” said Flowers.
