Sleeping man attacked with hammer in Bel Air home invasion
BEL AIR, Md. (WBFF) - Two 18-year-old men were arrested after a home invasion in Bel Air Sunday during which a victim was beaten and "struck with a hammer," reported Town of Bel Air police Wednesday.
Officers responded for a call for a burglary and assault on Moores Mill Road near Chesney Lane at about 1:47 p.m. Sunday, according to a press release.
The victim said he was attacked hours earlier, between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday.
He told police that while he was sleeping, two people kicked in the side door to his home and accosted him.
The first suspect, Ryan Smetana, allegedly hit him with his fists and stomped on him. The second suspect, Ian Heinecke, allegedly struck him multiple times with a hammer.
Both men were arrested Wednesday and charged with home invasion, third-degree burglary, fourth-degree burglary, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and vandalism.
