BALTIMORE (WBFF) -- After months of anticipation, the country’s largest and most advanced destroyer will soon become an elite member of the Navy’s fighting force.

On Saturday, the USS Zumwalt will be commissioned in Baltimore. The stealth destroyer is the most sophisticated ship in the Navy’s fleet and will operate with half as many sailors as other destroyers.

“It’s a marvelous piece of technology, “ said Captain James Kirk. “It’s not a Ferrari but it’s like a very big SUV that is made to go very fast."

The Navy started building the ship seven years ago. It will call San Diego, California its home.

Several top military officials and invited guests will attend Saturday's commissioning of the Zumwalt in Baltimore’s Locust Point.
