'TRAGIC LOSS' | Baltimore teacher, UMD law student die in Christmas plane crash

BALTIMORE (WBFF) - The Baltimore area is mourning a local teacher and her husband, a UMD law student, who were killed on Christmas Eve in a plane crash in Florida.

Victoria Shannon Worthington, a 26-year-old teacher at Baltimore International Academy, and Peter Worthington Jr., were two of five people who died after a Cessna 340 plane crashed while heading to Key West.

In a post Monday, the Baltimore International Academy recalled Shannon Worthington, a fourth-grade English Language Arts teacher, as "an amazing teacher" who "was much loved by students and staff alike."

The Baltimore Teachers Union also wrote on Facebook that "this is a tragic loss for Baltimore International Academy staff, students and families, as well as our membership."

"Our hearts and prayers are with Ms. Worthington’s family," wrote the Teachers Union.

The University of Maryland law school, where John Shannon was a student, said: "He was a tremendous contributor to our community and he will be terribly missed."
