Record number of guns seized at BWI in 2017
BALTIMORE (WBFF) -- A Baltimore man was arrested Tuesday morning after trying to bring a loaded handgun past the security checkpoint at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
A Transportation Security Administration officer found the loaded 9mm handgun in the man’s carry-on bag. It was the 25th gun detected at the airport checkpoints this year, marking the most guns caught during a single calendar year. Last year, 24 guns were detected at the airport’s checkpoints.
Officials say Maryland Transportation Authority Police confiscated the firearm and arrested the man on weapons charges.
Officials say a typical first offense for carrying a handgun into a checkpoint is $3,900, but could be upwards of $13,000.
TSA has details on how to properly travel with a firearm posted on its web site here: http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/firearms-and-ammunition.
