U.Baltimore students protest Betsy DeVos as commencement speaker
BALTIMORE (WBFF) - Dozens of students voiced their concerns at the University of Baltimore today about the news that U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos would speak at this year's fall commencement.
Some students feel DeVos' presence at the university would go against the ideals of the student body.
University of Baltimore President Kurt Schmoke invited DeVos and disagrees with the protesters.
"They are assuming what's going to be said by the secretary....where there's not one point of view," he said.
Schmoke says inviting DeVos is in the best tradition of the university.
He says they will continue to have discussions about this on campus, but her invitation still stands.
