Friends and family gather to remember pregnant mother, murdered on Easter Sunday
BALTIMORE (WBFF) -- Friends and relatives remembered 28-year old Shahidah Barnes at a vigil on Wednesday night.
They gathered at Pumphrey Recreation Center.
Barnes was shot and killed on Easter Sunday in a county parking lot. She was 20 weeks pregnant and her unborn child also died. Detectives say her husband admitted the crime in a telephone call before turning up dead moments later.
At the vigil Barnes’ mother thanked those who helped remember her daughter.
“We were just together Sunday, before all of this happened," Shahidah Miles said. “I know she’s living with the Lord now and that’s my blessed hope.”
The family has set up a GoFundMe page for her six-year-old daughter and they are planning a memorial service for next Thursday.
Detectives say the suspect, Deron Barnes, was found dead along Route 40, and investigators believe someone took a gun that was near Deron before police arrived.
The medical examiner will determine if his death was a suicide.
