WARNING: Phone Scam
BALTIMORE (WBFF)-- Howard County Police are warning residents about a new phone scam targeting senior citizens.
During the fake calls, the scammer claims to be from the Sheriff's Office and says there is a warrant for the victims arrest for missed jury duty. Victims are told they must pay a fine over the phone using a "Green Dot" prepaid money card.
One victim has already lost $860 in the scam. Howard County Sheriff's and Police want the public to know they will never demand payment of any kind over the phone.
They are also advising you to be wary of unknown callers, never feel pressured to make a decision on the spot and under no circumstances should you give out personal or monetary information over the phone.
If you believe you may have been the victim of a phone scam, call police at 410-313-2200 or you can file a report online at HCPD.org.
