Ellicott City marks 1 year since devastating flood
ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WBFF) - It has been one year since the deadly, epic flood raged with Historic Ellicott City.
More than 6 inches of rain fell in two hours. Streets were flooded and the water carried any vehicles away that stood in its path. Businesses were destroyed and lives lost.
Survivors of the deadly flood say the catastrophe also brought the community together. Many said it shows humanity's resilience.
Howard County has already strengthened the river beds and pipe systems. However, administrators hope to spend $18 million in the coming year on four major projects to improve and slow the water flow through town.
Despite the rain, weekend events to commemorate last year's flood are moving ahead as scheduled.
