FROM THE ARCHIVES: Maryland's prison hostage situation in 1991

BALTIMORE (WBFF) -- As the nation watched the prison hostage situation unfold in Delaware, Marylanders remembered a similar crisis at the Maryland Penitentiary in downtown Baltimore, over 25 years ago.

It happened in July 1991: Inmates took over a block of the jail and held hostages for more than 24 hours.

In the end, the final hostage was freed.
