Is it appropriate for school children to sing songs praising President Obama?

15.38% Yes
84.61% No

Comment: When I was growing up we sang songs about the president, our flag and our country. It was indoctrination--indoctrinating in us a love for our country and a respect for the office of the president. It's called patriotism. from Columbia, MD by Ronald

Comment: At any given time a song about this president or any of the former ones is fine. That is different from a candidate running for the position. That would be political. from Baltimore by Lisa

Comment: When was the last time you saw patriotism alive in school? The kids did not suffer a loss in education. The people complaining are just complaining because it is Obama. If if was Bush they wouldn't be complaining. from Columbia, MD by Roy

Comment: Teaching young children in school to sing praises of President Obama smells of communism and socialism. It is inappropriate for young minds to be indoctrinated that way. The teacher should be fired. from Cordova, Md by Shirley

Comment: Throughout our nation's history people have had varying opinions regarding a president's political views, however we have always praised these particular citizens for their service to country. Current outcries and objections are nothing more than veiled racism. from Nottingham/MD by Audrey

Comment: The only way that I can see this being appropriate is if, in the past, the same class sang the praises of Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, GHW Bush, Clinton and then Obama. (I can excuse anyone not singing the praises of GW Bush.) If they started singing the praises of only the current president, then it smacks of prejudices and political agendas. from Columbia MD by Richard

Comment: All hell would of broke loose if the praise songs were about "W" Bush. No Dems, you can't have it both ways. from Baltimore by Hector

Comment: I feel that the president Obama should not be shoved on are kids. They should leave politics out of school. I have never seen this kind of behaivor in are schools over a president. from Glen Burnie by Marcy

Comment: Praises should only be for God. What President Obama has received it was done through God. Only God gets the Glory and Praises. from Baltimore, Md. by Cecelia

Comment: It could not be done with a WHITE PRESIDENT it should not be done for a BLACK PRESIDENT. THIS IS AS BAD AS Keecham demanding a black replace Dixon if she goes to jail. Blacks will never stop with the race card as long as there are people like Keecham around. If a white person would have made the same remark as Keecham I'll bet the naacp would have a $BILLION LAW SUIT. from Pasadena/Md by Earl

Comment: He is the PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES! I know that Fox is anti- Obama, but this is crazy! How can you have a polititian say, First graders should be learning reading, writing, and arithmetic and not taking time learning about politics. In that case let's forget about the Pledge of Allegiance! One parent, an obvious Republican had a complaint and that's it let's stop the children from learning about the President, or singing a song! God Help Us All! I know this will never see the light of day but I think you have gone too far! from Baltimore, Maryland by Mildred

Comment: No way. I wouldn't tolerate school kids singing songs of praise about Hilter, Saddam Hussein, Kim Jong-il or any other similar dictator with an evil, hidden agenda, so it only follows that singing songs of praise about Obama is equally as wrong any way you look at it. from timonium / md by Jim

Comment: whatever happened to the separation of church and state? from reisterstown,md by nat

Comment: School children should be taught to respect people, not be angry for no reason. I'll bet the right wing idiots wouldn't make an issue of this if it were W. or Ronald Reagan the kids were singing about. Get past this nonsense of hating Obama and let kids be kids. from Columbia by Mike

Comment: That is the beginning of brainwashing. from Glen Burnie, Md. by Joseph

Comment: No! Unless the children can sing Christmas songs, not winter songs, then it's OK.? from Catonsville by Dan

Comment: Is he the President or a novelty item? Besides what has he truly done that deserves praise? from Millersville, MD by Scott

Comment: It's bad enough that we can't mention our Creator's name in schools but we can sing about someone who thinks he "is" our creator. from Pasadena, Md. by Tony

Comment: just think what would happen if they sang a song praising GOD or former president Bush. it would take 6-months for things to settle. from Columbia by Jack

Comment: I teach music as a sideline. My younger students have never even heard of songs that were once taught in school, like: 'The Erie Canal', 'Golden Slippers', 'Garry Owen', 'This Land is Your Land', or 'Sweet Betsy from Pike". If they aren't familiar with songs from the culture or history of their own ancestors, why should they sing a song in praise of a man whose sole job it is to spend other people's money? I would be just as annoyed if they sang a song praising Ronald Reagan. from Silver Spring, MD by Mike

Comment: Is this Communist China? Russia? Hitler's Germany? Who would think that teaching children songs about any politician would be a good idea? How qualified could these teachers actually be if they have such little knowledge of where this type of brainwashing has led other nations in 20th century history? from Kent Island, MD by Buddy

Comment: Politics should not be a part of elementary education. It smacks of Hitler's youth movement! The President should step in and put an end to this once and for all! from Westminster, MD by Michael

Comment: At least not in this country! from Ellicott City by Karen

Comment: Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic...this type of politics can wait until college. from Columbia by Safer

Comment: Indoctrination from Clarksville, MD by Mark

Comment: Indoctrination-that means private school for my kids from Pasadena/MD by Andrew

Comment: What would have been the reaction last year if first-graders were forced to sing "Bush, Bush, he's our man. If he can't do it, nobody can."? Same thing now. It's called INDOCTRINATION!! from Columbia, MD by Ron

Comment: I think the song teaches respect for our elected officials and promotes patriotism. The earlier we teach our children these values the better the future of our country will be. from Baltimore/MD by Kevin

Comment: No, the govt needs to keep there hands off our children. from ellicott city by Chick

Comment: Not just NO but HELL NO! from balto. by CHARLES

Comment: We used to sing songs about the servicemen that died to make us free or about God who continues to bless this great land called the United Staes of America, not to a single man and where comes this line, he will make us strong again, our country shows its strength by helping each other after 9-11 and by helping all those around the world every time a disaster strikes. Who are we kidding here? from Edgewater, MD by Sandy

Comment: What has Obama done? He has caused great division in our country by leading it into socialism. from Columbia, MD by Marie

Comment: Current Presidents may wind up having scandals that may make them not "song worthy." Think of Nixon or Clinton. from Woodbine, Maryland by Tim
