"Champions of Courage" is a showcase for students to honor those who have shared the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with young people. The competition challenges students to salute their personal heroes...positive role models who have inspired them to dream, to overcome, and to achieve.
Students can enter by writing a brief essay saluting their "Champion of Courage". Twenty-eight (28) essays will be selected as winners. Winners will present their essays on FOX 45 and the CW Baltimore during Black History Month and will receive a $100. Savings Bond at a gala awards luncheon to be held February 20th at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore. The three top finalists will be awarded additional Savings Bonds and their schools will share $2000. in cash awards.
Contest Details
- The competition is open to all students grades 6 through 12.
- Essays must salute a real person not a fictional character.
- Essays must be read aloud within twenty-five (25) seconds. As a guideline, the essay should be 65 to 80 words.
- Essays must be legible and the the student's name, home address, telephone number, school, grade, and teacher's name must appear on the entry.
- One entry per student.
- Essays will be judged on originality, language art skills, and execution of the competition theme.
- Deadline: FOX 45 must receive all entries by Thursday, January 14, 2010
