Baltimore Ravens Host Military Appreciation Day

Updated: Tuesday, August 13 2013, 09:22 AM EDT

Sunday night's practice was a homecoming for Baltimore Ravens fans, who happily came out to the stadium for the first time since last season. Ravens fans wore their colors today with pride - but there was more to be thankful for at Sunday's practice than just the Super Bowl team.

Sunday's practice was Military Appreciation Day, where FOX45’s Melinda Roeder found plenty of red, white, blue, and camouflage. Getting into the groove of a brand new season, the Marching Ravens welcome fans back to M&T Bank Stadium.

Michael Blander told FOX45, “Oh it’s exciting to be back at M&T Bank Stadium. It’s like the season hasn’t ended for everybody.”

Ravens fans are still reeling from last year’s big win, and after a long spring and summer they are thrilled to come home.

Some Ravens fans traveled far and wide to witness Sunday’s open practice. Sean Hernandez, who came all the way from Germany, told FOX45, “It’s really big actually because it’s my first time in the stadium and I really like it.”

Since most of the Ravens practices are now held at headquarters closed to the public, Sunday’s practice was a rare treat for fans.

Today’s practice was also a special homecoming for America’s military.  It was even more special for those who serve in the military. The Ravens hosted Military Appreciation Day with t-shirts and 3,500 seats reserved for active military members and veterans.

Staff Sgt. Isolda McCLelland said, “It’s always nice to be appreciated. It’s good to see the players too because we don’t get an opportunity to come out here all that often.”

FOX45’s Melinda Roeder asked fans about their expectation for this season, and if they thought the Ravens could possibly repeat their Super Bowl Victory, one soldier simply smiled and said, “Mission possible.”
