Legendary High School Football Coach Steve Turnbaugh Retires

Updated: Thursday, December 5 2013, 06:59 PM EST

Steve Turnbaugh is a legendary name in state high school football circles. The coaching great took a downtrodden program at Hereford High in Baltimore County and turned it into a powerhouse.

Now, after having accomplished so much, Turnbaugh has bid the school goodbye.

After spending 19 years building the football program, Friday, November 1 was the coach's final home game at the high school.

The season wasn't easy for the Bulls, after a 0-3 start the team strung together seven straight wins - not surprising for Turnbaugh who's spent a career staring adversity in the face and overcoming it.

Over Turnbaugh's 19-year career he's been to the playoffs 16 times and won three state titles.

At his final Hereford home game, over 150 former players came back to thank their coach for getting the Bulls to where they are today. That Friday night was capped off with a big win, a fitting home victory for Turnbaugh who may be done for now, but not necessarily for good.
