Pat Skerry raises awareness for autism

Updated: Monday, February 10 2014, 07:17 PM EST

Pat Skerry has done wonders at Towson University. After a 1-31 season his first year, he turned it around last year, winning 18 games.

He is used to working with kids, getting them to excel and he gets a lot of practice at home. His five-year-old son, Owen, has autism.

On February 1, more than 80 college basketball coaches donned the autism awareness pin during their games.

"It costs an average family $60,000 a year to help it and a lot of help isn't give out from the government. Hopefully this brings a lot of awareness to it," Skerry said.

One in 88 American children are diagnosed with the disorder.
