Ravens Linebacker Ray Lewis Gets Experimental Procedure

Updated: Monday, November 26 2012, 07:37 PM EST

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis is expected to return to practice this week after undergoing a procedure in Europe to repair his triceps injury.

Lewis could be cleared to play and be on the field in time for the December 16 game against the Denver Broncos.

Sources close to Lewis say he traveled to Europe for treatment involving stem cells.  Yahoo sports reports Lewis was receiving platelete-rich therapy.  Similar therapies are available overseas, and include stem cells.  The stem cell therapy is not legal yet in the United States.

Lewis was injured in October in a game against the Dallas Cowboys.  It was feared then that it would be a season ending injury.
