Ray Lewis to Return to Football Field

Updated: Monday, November 26 2012, 07:37 PM EST

The Ravens had their most unlikely win of the season yesterday in San Diego, but the biggest news is coming from off the field.

Ray Lewis Is expected to return sooner than first thought.

When Ray Lewis tore his triceps in mid-October, he was thought to be out for the season, but the Ravens listed him under the NFL's "Designated to Return" classification, rather than Injured Reserve, which would have ended his season.

Now there's word that Lewis could be back on the filed as early as December 16, when the Ravens take on the Denver Broncos at M&T Bank Stadium.

Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome said that Lewis would be eligible to practice again this Thursday, and his official return could be on the 16th.

He's been undergoing plasma therapy and using a hyperbaric chamber daily to speed recovery.
