Roberts To The Bronx

Updated: Tuesday, December 17 2013, 10:04 AM EST
Brian Roberts, the longest-tenured member of the Baltimore Orioles is leaving.
He has agreed to a reported one year, 2 million dollar contract with the New York Yankees.
Roberts just completed a four year, 40 million dollar contract with the Orioles, and stated back in September that he'd like to stay in Baltimore. The Orioles obviously decided against that.
Now 36, Roberts joined the Orioles in 2001, and was the face of the franchise during some very lean years.
Roberts played in just 115 games during the first three and a half years of his contract due to a series of injuries, but did return in 2013, playing in 77 games.
He's expected to fill the hole left by departing free agent Robinson Cano in New York.
Newly-acquired Jamille Weeks, prospect Jonathan Schoop, and returning veteran Ryan Flaherty are all candidates to replace Roberts.
