US National Soccer Team on Winning Streak, Comes to Baltimore

Updated: Friday, August 2 2013, 09:22 PM EDT

The Men's US National Soccer team is riding its longest winning streak in 100 years. Its next game will be right here in Baltimore at M&T Bank Stadium.

FOX45's Joel Smith spoke with Terry Hasseltine, executive director of the Maryland Office of Sports to find out just what this game will mean to Maryland.

"It's huge. You're talking tens of thousands of people embarking on the city of Baltimore…for a double header soccer match," Hasseltine said. "A huge fan base is coming in…for what should be a really exceptional soccer game played here on Sunday."

US Soccer plays Sunday against El Salvador. The Baltimore stadium will host 2 quarterfinal games of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Gold Cup. Quarterfinal 1 (USA vs. El Salvador) starts at 4 p.m., followed by Quarterfinal 2 (Honduras vs. Costa Rica) starting at 7 p.m.

Earlier this week the US team secured a 1-0 victory against Costa Rica, giving the US team eight wins in a row. The winning streak is sparking ticket sales, with over 40,000 tickets sold so far for Sunday's game.

FOX45 will air Sunday's game starting at 4 p.m.
