After Poly's First State Title in Boys' Basketball Last Year, the Engineers Want a Repeat
BALTIMORE, Md. (WBFF)--- Baltimore Polytechnic Institute was founded in 1883. It's a school that traditionally has been dominated by football in its athletic department.
After winning Poly's first state title in boys' basketball last season, the Engineers are starting to gain attention as a premier basketball program in Baltimore City. Not an easy task.
Poly's head coach Sam Brand went to Poly. He graduated in 1999, and his teams never had a winning record. In his 8th season, Poly is 20-6 and not done playing. The Engineers are looking to repeat as MPSSAA 3A State Champions. Poly is two wins away from the state title. The Engineers play Stephen Decatur tomorrow night in the 3A state semifinal.
Brand has a balanced roster this season, but is led by sophomore Justin Lewis. Lewis transferred into Poly this year after spending his freshman year at Calvert Hall. Just this week he got a visit to practice by Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon. Turgeon offered Lewis a scholarship to play for the Terps in two more years.
