Gervonta "Tank" Davis Stripped of Title; failed to make weight
BALTIMORE, Md. (WBFF)--- On the eve of his biggest stage, Gervonta "Tank" Davis failed to make weight during his weigh-in for tomorrow's fight against Francisco Fonseca. Davis, the IBF World Super Featherweight title holder, was two pounds overweight.
Davis did not attempt to re-weigh following a two-hour allowed break. He will be stripped of his IBF title. The two will still fight Saturday night from Las Vegas before Floyd Mayweather (49-0) takes on MMA star Conor McGregor, but Fonseca will get the belt if he wins. Davis has no chance to take the belt. If he wins, it will remain vacant.
This fight card has been projected to break Pay-Per-View fight records, it will be on ShowtimePPV at 9 p.m. tomorrow.
Davis, who became a world champion in January, was set to defend his title for the second time this year. He's 18-0 as a professional. The 22-year-old has won every fight, but one via knockout. Davis, was born and raised in west Baltimore and trains at Upton Boxing Center under Calvin Ford and in Las Vegas under Mayweather Promotions.
