O's Place Chris Tillman on the DL
BALTIMORE, Md. (WBFF)--- The Orioles have decided to not part ways with starting pitcher Chris Tillman. Tillman was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a lower back strain. Jimmy Yacabonis has been called up from Triple-A Norfolk. This buys Tillman some time to get healthy and collect himself as an arm in the Orioles' rotation. It also allows the O's to keep Tillman in the organization.
He could be placed in the bullpen for relief once he returns off the DL.
Tillman has an earned run average of 10.46 in seven starts this season with the Orioles. In his last two starts, Tillman has failed to get out of the second inning. In those starts, Tillman has surrendered 12 earned runs and 11 hits in 2 1/3 innings work.
The O's re-signed Tillman to a one-year contract this offseason for $3 million. He struggled last season after a shoulder injury. Tillman was 1-7 with a 7.84 ERA.
Tillman hasn't looked the same since 2016, his best season in an O's uniform. In 30 starts that season Tillman went 16-6 with an ERA of 3.77.
He made his Orioles debut in 2009 after getting traded into the organization from Seattle.
