WBFF :: Health Care Reform

Health care reform cleared a big hurdle on Capitol Hill, with Maine Senator Olympia Snowe once again playing a starring role. Senator Snowe was the only Republican to join with every Democrat on the committee in approving the $829 billion overhaul, sending it on to the full Senate. Senator Snowe ended the suspense Tuesday, saying she would vote for this latest version of the health care reform plan after she received assurances from the non-partisan congressional budget office that the costs were in line with what she expected. The final vote was 14 to 9. 13 Democrats and one Republican were for it, while zero Democrats and 9 Republicans voted against it. Of course, the final health care plan has a long way to go, including votes in the Senate, and then a potentially bruising effort to try to reconcile it with what house Democrats want.
