FREDERICK, Md. (ABC7) — A woman has been charged with murder after being accused of hitting an 81-year-old woman multiple times with a blunt object, Frederick Police announced Tuesday.
Authorities charged Maria Gloria Vazquez-Mebo, of Frederick, Maryland, with first and second-degree murder of the woman. She is currently in jail at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.
A death investigation was performed on the victim and police say there was apparent head trauma to the woman and other unusual circumstances. Investigators are not releasing the victim's name at the request of her family.
Frederick Police say on Sept. 13 officers responded to a call for an injured person at a residence located in the 400 block of North Bentz Street. A person called 911 and reported that an older woman had fallen down the stairs.
The woman died at the scene and police began an investigation after being granted a search warrant for the home to gather possible evidence.
Following an autopsy and discussion with the medical examiner, police were granted a second search warrant on Sept. 14 to return to the home to collect more potential evidence.
Vazquez-Mebo was later taken into custody and during an interview with officers allegedly confessed to hitting the woman multiple times with a blunt object, according to police.
