BALTIMORE (WBFF) - A Baltimore County police detective shot at a suspect vehicle in downtown Baltimore, after the vehicle allegedly drove at the officer, said county police.
The incident has shut down East Redwood Street near Calvert and South streets.
The incident started at about 2:15 p.m. when county police tried to stop the vehicle, which was suspected to be involved in multiple robberies in Baltimore County, said County Police spokesperson Vickie Warehime.
"Through investigative techniques, [police] knew [the suspects] were at" at hotel on Redwood, said Warehime. "They coordinated that once the suspect vehicle was brought out by a valet driver, [police] were going to pinch the suspect vehicle in, turn their lights on, and announce that they were making an arrest. Once the valet driver came in an the suspect got into the vehicle, we believe the suspect realized that the officers were pulling up. The officers turned their lights on, got out, and announced to 'freeze,' 'get out of the car.' At that time, the driver of that vehicle crashed into the back of a police car that had its lights on... After the [suspect] vehicle hit the Suburban, one of the detectives was standing by the orange-cone marker... The suspect vehicle went directly at that detective."
She said that prompted the detective to fire his weapon.
The vehicle then fled, but was later recovered.
No officers were injured. Police do not know if the suspect was struck.
Police have one person in custody - the passenger. The driver remains at large, said Warehime.
