150 LAYOFFS | Aberdeen distribution center to close
ABERDEEN, Md. (WBFF) - A longtime distribution center in Harford County will be shutting down and is set to lay off 150 employees.
Saks Fifth Avenue filed a notice with the state Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation on Nov. 8 saying its Aberdeen distribution center will be closing.
Harford County spokesperson Cindy Mumby said "the company said that they have approximately 150 employees but the closing will be in phases beginning in March 2019."
The facility is on Hickory Drive in Aberdeen.
Susquehanna Workforce Network will be working with employees to help them find other jobs, said Mumby.
She added that "we do not anticipate there will be difficulty in backfilling the space. In fact, we saw an announcement in August that demand for industrial/distribution space in Harford County prompted MRP Industrial to plan more than 1 million square feet of space to be built on spec at Eastgate."
