9-year-old caught in crossfire in Waverly

Mayor Rawlings-Blake and Commissioner Davis

BALTIMORE (WBFF)-- A Community seeks answers after a 9-year-old girl was shot on her front porch. Police said the child was hit by a bullet in an apparent crossfire.

The shooting took place just after 1 p.m., on Old York Road near Melville Avenue early Sunday afternoon.

According to police, they believe that there was a lone gunman who opened fire on a group of four young males who were standing outside. The child was struck by a bullet while she was playing on the steps in front of her home.

Family members transported the child to an area hospital. She is listed in stable condition and is currently being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg and a broken femur.

Police have not released any information about the four men who were targeted or a description of the shooting suspect. But are asking for the help of the community in identifying the shooter.

At a press conference held by the Commissioner Davis and Mayor Rawlings-Blake they reminded everyone that McKenzie Elliot was shot not to far from there, and they are continuing to seek justice for her as well.

City Councilman Brandon Scott just wants someone to step-up, "Step-up be a man and say something."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

This is a developing story.
