Active-shooter training in Howard Co., a day after another mass shooting
FULTON, Md. (WBFF) - A small crowd gathered at Grace Community Church in Fulton, Howard County, to get tips from police on what to do in case there is an active shooter in a public place.
It is in response to the recent tragic shooting at Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh and similar acts of violence in businesses like Rite Aid and the Capital Gazette here in Maryland.
The California nightclub shooting happened Wednesday night. The forum was held Thursday.
Jamie Insley, from a Howard County synagogue, says the lessons learned at the forum are valuables.
Insley said: “There’s a lot you can do without costing a a penny - just letting people know they need to be aware of their situation, have a plan so you don’t freeze and lose... time."
Associate minister Aaron Powell, of the First Baptist Church of Guilford, said: “Folks, for the most part, would prefer being protected if it meant armed security."
He would not reveal security measures in place at his own church.
