Adnan Syed Granted Appeal in 1999 Murder Case

    Even though the first season of the popular podcast "Serial" has ended, Adnan Syed's story continues to unfold. {}

    The latest development centers around Maryland's Court of Special Appeals and its decision to revisit the case. Defense attorney Andrew Levy says, "This is likely his last best chance to get a new trial."

    Syed's story centers around one about love, murder and deception. It dates back to 1999 when he was a senior at Woodlawn High School. During that time, Syed's ex-girlfriend Hae Lee who was later found murdered also attended school there.

    Following his arrest, a jury convicted Syed. His conviction now hangs in the balance.

    Levy says, "If he loses here he's probably going to spend his life in prison. Levy predicts if anything the popularity of "Serial" will result in tougher questions being asked by the Court of Special Appeals.

    Arguments are scheduled to be heard in June.
