BALTIMORE (WBFF) - A limited-edition, reusable Starbucks holiday cup is now a hot commodity.
Today, the first day the cups were available, many Baltimore-area Starbucks customers said the special cups were flying off the shelves.
(Starbucks said anyone who buys a holiday beverage starting today gets the cup for free; after today, it costs $2.50. Those who have the cups get a $0.50 discount on holiday drinks in the afternoon through Jan. 7.)
Cari Suarez-Santiago wrote on Facebook shortly before 11 a.m. that Parkville's new Starbucks at Joppa and Loch Raven roads was "already out of holiday cups and it's not even 11! Poor planning Starbucks!"
Johanna Einolf reported the Perry Hall Starbucks being out of them before noon, around the same time Dina Michelle replied that "all of them in Harford County" were also sold out.
Other people reported the store at Towson's Target also being sold out. Customers reported Starbucks sites staying extremely busy this morning, although a few people were able to get the cups.
Starbucks Corporation said in a statement: "We are seeing an enthusiastic response to the return of Holiday beverages and cups at Starbucks as well as today’s limited-edition giveaway of our reusable red holiday cup, which is available while supplies last. Each store has a limited supply for today, and we’re aware that some stores are already running out."
The company noted customers who didn't get the reusable cup can buy it starting Saturday for $2.50.
