BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD (WBFF) Baltimore County officials have released information on where residents can go to get relief from the cold.
During the daytime, any resident needing water and access to bathrooms in a warm environment, can visit local government facilities such as the public libraries and senior centers.
Shopping malls, movie theaters, restaurants and grocery stores are also options. For a shelter bed, residents can call 410-887-8463, option 1, to speak with a screener in the Information, Referral and Screening Unit, who can offer help with shelter options.
There are a limited number of shelter beds available in Baltimore County and surrounding areas, but the I.R.S. unit performs a vulnerability assessment to prioritize placement in the County's shelters. The I.R.S. unit may be able to refer callers to other resources, so all County residents seeking temporary shelter are encouraged to call.
The Baltimore County Freezing Weather shelters located at the Eastern Family Resource Center on Franklin Square Drive in Rosedale, and the Westside Men's Shelter on Redwood Circle in Catonsville, are activated between November 1 and April 15 on nights when the temperature forecast calls for freezing weather.
Homeless residents can call 410-887-8463, option 1, to confirm activation and bed capacity. The shelters open at 6:00 p.m. when activated and close at 9:00 a.m. the next morning. Residents should arrive by 10:00 p.m. Additionally, the Freezing Weather Shelters may be activated during daytime hours when County offices are closed due to severe weather.
