(WBFF) -- After much review, the Baltimore County State's Attorney says the police-involved shooting at the Duke's Motel in Rosedale back on July 6th was justified.
Baltimore County State’s Attorney Robin S. Coffin wrote a letter to Police Chief Melissa Hyatt stating:
Dear Chief Hyatt:
I have reviewed the events surrounding the shooting of Kareem Morgan. On July 6, 2019, at 5:00 a.m., Morgan broke into his estranged girlfriend, Rashawna Jenkins’ home with a handgun. There was a struggle over the gun and Ms. Jenkins was shot in the knee. Morgan fled the location in Jenkins’ car. This car was seen outside the Dukes Motel. It was determined that Morgan was in room 122. A search warrant was obtained for room 122. Because it was known that Morgan was armed with a handgun, the warrant was a noknock and executed by the tactical unit. The body worn camera footage captures the entry into the room. Morgan fired a shot before the tactical unit removes the curtain. Once the curtain is removed, Morgan can be seen pointing a handgun at the Officers. Morgan fired four rounds at the Officers. The shooting of Morgan by Officer McCampbell was justified to protect the lives of all of the Officers. Accordingly, this office will take no further action.
Sincerely,
Robin S. Coffin, Deputy State’s Attorney For Baltimore County
Detectives from the Baltimore County Police Homicide Unit identified the suspect Kareem Omar Morgan in the police-involved shooting at Duke’s Motel Saturday night as the same suspect who shot a woman in Windsor Mill earlier that morning.
Morgan died during an exchange of gunfire with police Saturday night as officers from the Tactical Team attempted to execute a search and seizure warrant and arrest warrant at the room he was staying in at Duke’s Motel.
The conduct of Robertson was a direct threat to Officer Allinson and the shooting of Robertson was justified. Accordingly, this office will take no further action.
The Homicide Unit and Internal Affairs Unit investigated the officer-involved shooting at Duke's Motel in Rosedale on July 6th.
According to authorities, police responded to a shooting around 5 a.m. in Windsor Mill where a woman,37, said she was shot by her ex-boyfriend..
The boyfriend reportedly fled from that scene. Later in the day, police learned that the suspect may be at Duke's Motel.
Police responded to the motel to make contact with the suspect and serve a warrant. At that time, an exchange of gunfire ensued and the suspect was killed.
No officers were injured.
