BALTIMORE (WBFF) - A 5-year-old girl was found shot on a west Baltimore sidewalk Monday evening.

Several sources have confirmed to FOX45 that the victim is Amy and she is the half-sister of 7-year-old murder victim Taylor Hayes.

"A citizen looked outside and saw the child [Amy] laying on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound," said Baltimore police about the incident, reported at 6:21 p.m. on McKean Street at Mosher.

"That citizen picked up the child and immediately transported her to an area hospital for treatment," said police. "Investigators believe the victim was caught in the middle of a shootout involving suspects in an unidentified vehicle and suspects on foot."

The child was brought to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the groin, said police. She was immediately taken into surgery.

Investigators were informed that the child was alert and able to talk to doctors.

Police said the victim is now out of surgery and expected to survive.

They also said they would not be providing interviews on the incident until Tuesday.
