Police: Man dead after being trapped under rear wheels of bus in NW DC (ABC7)

A man is dead after being trapped under the rear wheels of a commuter bus in Northwest Washington Wednesday.

DC Fire crews arrived at the scene around 4:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of Constitution Avenue, NW, where they attempted to perform a technical rescue on the man.

Fire and EMS crews along with DC Police will remain on scene to assist with recovery efforts as authorities conduct an investigation.

14th St., NW, between Constitution and Madison Dr., SW, are closed in both directions due to police activity.

On Wednesday evening, Potomac and Rappahannock Transit Commission (PRTC) released the following statement:

"A PRTC OmniRide bus was involved in a fatal pedestrian accident this afternoon near 14th Street and Constitution Avenue.
PRTC expresses its deepest condolences to the pedestrian’s family. No injuries to passengers on the bus were reported.
PRTC and its contractor, First Transit Inc., are fully cooperating with investigators."
