Elijah Cummings's wife announces Gubernatorial campaign
BALTIMORE (WBFF)-- Thursday community leader and wife of Congressman Elijah Cummings, Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, announced that she is running for governor.
In a news release Thursday morning, the small business owner and community leader announced her candidacy.
"My story is an American story. I grew up in a military family where I was raised to work hard and give back, which is why I started my own small business and founded a nonprofit dedicated to helping improve the lives of Marylanders."
She continued, "Maryland is blessed with many strengths, but under Governor Larry Hogan we're punching below our fighting weight. Too many Maryland families are still struggling to make ends meet. We can do better, and we need a leader with real-world experience and bold ideas who will make Maryland's economy work for all people and communities."
Rockeymoore Cummings says she wants to build Maryland's economy from the bottom up and from the middle out and give Marylanders across the state a real shot at good-paying jobs. She said she will continue to strengthen schools so every Maryland child graduates with the skills needed to succeed, tackle the epidemic of gun violence at its root, make healthcare a right not a privilege, and make smart investments in eco-friendly transportation for the century ahead.
Rockeymoore Cummings vows to take on the Trump Administration and Washington Republicans when she says, their proposals would hurt Marylanders and the state's economy.
