Giant removing almond granola bars from stores due to Listeria risks


LANDOVER, Md. (WBFF) -- Giant Food has announced the recall of Giant Sweet & Salty Almond Chewy Granola Bars, by TreeHouse Foods, from its stores due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

So far, Giant has received no reports of illnesses, however consuming food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may cause listeriosis. Listeriosis a potentially fatal disease. It can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Listeriosis has also been linked to causing miscarriages and stillbirths as well as serious and fatal infections in people with weakened immune systems. Those susceptible include: infants, the elderly, and people with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.

Customers who purchased this product should throw away any remaining portions this have and bring receipts to Giant for a full refund.
