Hogan: 'Putin is a thug and his actions against our democracy are despicable'
BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Governor Larry Hogan responded Tuesday to the summit between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin saying that Trump "failed to stand up for our country."
The Governor tweeted: "I remember when President Ronald Reagan called the Soviet Union the evil empire. Not much has changed. Putin is a thug & his actions against our democracy are despicable. On this I agree with our intelligence community. President Trump failed to stand up for our country yesterday."
Monday, Republicans and Democrats slammed the President's performance at a press conference in Helsinki, Finland.
Trump's remarks contradicted the findings of the U.S. intelligence community as well as Senate and House intelligence committee reports.
House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., issued this public statement:
"There is no moral equivalence between the United States and Russia, which remains hostile to our most basic values and ideals," Ryan stated, adding the United States must be focused on holding Russia accountable for interfering in its democratic processes.
President Trump attributed the state of poor relations between the two countries to the U.S. "foolishness" saying both countries "made some mistakes."
