'I'M IN AWE' | Annapolis H.S. teacher gets $25,000 Milken Educator award

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WBFF) - After just six years of teaching, an Annapolis educator got an unbelievable surprise - $25,000 and the title of Milken Educator of the Year.

Annapolis High School math teacher Allison Felton said she still can't believe she won.

The Milken Educator Award is a national prize commonly regarded as "the Oscars of teaching."

Felton says the award means a lot because she once considered quitting.

She credited support staff with inspiring her to keep going.

When she finished her first year, "it didn't go well," noted Felton.

She was recognized for helping boost her students' test results and increasing the size of her school's International Baccalaureate program.
