Legal expert: Lawyers for Dawnta Harris are going public as a defense tactic
BALTIMORE (WBFF) - The attorneys for Dawnta Harris, accused in the murder of Baltimore County Police Ofr. Amy Caprio, spoke out at a news conference shortly after her death.
FOX45's Keith Daniels talked to a legal expert who believes they're speaking out as part of a defense tactic.
Warren Brown and J. Wyndal Gordon are representing the 16-year-old Dawnta Harris, charged with first-degree murder.
Both attorneys are going public, trying to put the best face on their client.
Doug Colbert, a professor at the University of Maryland School of Law, says the attorneys are doing what defense attorneys do.
"It's a necessary move because if you do not present your client in the most favorable light, the public is only left with the tragic and horrendous killing of a young police officer," said Colbert.
He explained: "They're trying very hard to counter the image that has been presented to the public."
