OCEAN CITY, Md. (WBFF) -- Ocean City's fishing pier has sustained significant damage, as a severe winter storm batters the mid-Atlantic.

Much of the wooden structure is missing, as seen in photos and videos posted to social media. Ocean City Police say the damage was first noticed around 6 a.m. Saturday, but is believed to have occurred late Friday night.

Ocean City Emergency Services officials say property damage and power outages have occurred throughout town, due to wind.

"Citizens should also prepare for possible power outages lasting several hours or even several days," Ocean City Emergency Services wrote in a release Saturday. "Additional precipitation, including rain and snow, high winds and flooding is going to continue through tomorrow morning."

According to the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA), all areas South of US 50 in Ocean City are closed due to high water.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to stay off the roadways.
