Officer identified in Parkville police-involved shooting

BALTIMORE (WBFF)-- Baltimore County Police are releasing the name of the officer involved in the October 29th shooting in the parking lot of Parkway Crossing in Parkville.

Corporal Gonzalez is assigned to the Woodlawn Precinct and is an 11-year veteran of the Police Department. He is currently on routine administrative leave.

Police say Corporal Gonzalez was working a security guard at the shopping center when he was notified of a person driving erratically in the parking lot at around 8:30 p.m. The officer started talking with the suspect when at some point the suspect accelerated, dragging the officer.

"The driver quickly accelerated the SUV and either dragged the officer or struck him, causing the officer to be struck by another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction of the SUV," spokesman Shawn Vinson said.

The officer was taken to Shock Trauma with non-life threatening injuries.

Police identified the suspect 28-year-old Derrick Alexander Sellman. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Corporal Gonzalez was involved in a prior shooting on March 13, 2017.
