BALTIMORE VIOLENCE | Police suspend leave, release video of officer-involved shooting

BALTIMORE (WBFF) - Baltimore police released body-camera video of an officer-involved shooting in west Baltimore last week.

The video showed a chaotic confrontation with officers and 29-year-old Nathaniel Sassafras; multiple gunshots are heard being fired.

The department also announced that it's suspending leave and beefing up patrols in response to a major spike in city violence.

"We're suspending all leave for police personnel for the next few days," said police commissioner Gary Tuggle.

"We have deployed today 527 officers and detectives, 66 sergeants and 20 lieutenants ... deployed in areas that not only have historical value with respect to the level of violence but deployed to areas where we think there may be some retribution."

"This is not going to be easy," said Tuggle about battling the crime spike.
