A 48-year-old woman has been charged with carjacking after police say she climbed through the passenger window of a car in Frederick Thursday evening, eventually took control from the driver, and crashed in a multiple-vehicle collision in Baltimore County.

When the woman got into the car, she asked the woman who was driving the car to take her to Baltimore. The driver refused but drove to a nearby location and got out of the car, allowing the carjacker to drive off.

Frederick Police say they received a call about the carjacking at 5:32 p.m. Thursday.

The woman climbed into the car in the area of East Patrick Street and Water Street. The owner of the car parked and got out in the 300 block of East Patrick Street.

The crash happened on Rt. 695 near I-83 in Baltimore County.

Deirdre D. Dean was charged with carjacking and charges related to the crash. She was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
