DENTON, Md. (WBFF) - A Caroline County man charged with child pornography Wednesday has been identified as a U.S. Secret Service employee.

Jeffrey Litteral, 52, of Denton, was arrested on a warrant at about 7:30 p.m. and accused of possessing and distributing child pornography, as well as related charges, according to a Maryland State Police news release.

An investigation began in 2017 about possible child pornography being uploaded online; an investigator with the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division confirmed that was true, according to the news release.

Litteral was ordered held without bond.

The Secret Service said in a statement Wednesday that "the employee's security clearance has been suspended and the employee has been placed on administrative leave. All Secret Service issued equipment has been retrieved and the employee's access to all Secret Service facilities is terminated."

"These allegations, if proven true, are intolerable and are condemned by the Secret Service. Our agency has a longstanding partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that dates back to 1994," the Secret Service continued in the statement.
